No getting away from the cold this time of year. But relief in sight maybe, in February. Looking forward to Ground Hog's Day next Tuesday. If it's a sunny day (here in South Dakota not Pennsylvania), the Ground Hog will see his shadow. Good news for us if it's sunny, because the prediction is for only six more weeks of winter versus a cloudy day prediction. If it's a cloudy day on Ground Hog's Day (February 2nd) and there is no shadow...well, who knows how much longer winter will hang on. I'm from Duluth and can remember snow banks still in our yard in the middle of May! Anyway...
Looking forward to the Ride for the Ribbon fundraiser for breast cancer next Saturday. The following Saturday, Feb. 13th is our 3rd annual SNOLF tournament (see post from last year).
This weekend is the Living History Fair at the Swiftel Center in Brookings, Saturday 9am to 5pm. See Ole the Norwegian Immigrant at 10am. Abe Lincoln is on the program for 1pm. This presentation was a highlight for us last year. Cowboys will be roaming amongst the displays. Call 605-693-4589 for more information.
And finally, did you know you can play BINGO at the American Legion in Bruce every Saturday night at 7:00 pm with the potential of winning $500 for as little as $8?!

Poinsett Pounders Hosting Governor's Winter Games this weekend
The Poinsett Pounders Snowmobile Club will be busy beginning Friday with a fishing contest on Lake Poinsett. More details on the events can be found at their new website,
http://www.itctel.com/poinsettpounders/
Click on the fireworks picture above to go there.
Our favorite event is the fireworks that are usually shot off right next to LAKEVIEW Resort. There is nothing like the crispness of the fireworks as they cascade down onto a frozen, white lake in the dark. Fireworks begin at dark. You won't want to miss them. Stop in for a cold drink or a hot coffee with a shot of bailey's to warm your tummy. Don't forget our LAKEVIEW Lite Menu along with all of the usual offerings. The weather's cooperating for a fun-filled weekend. Enjoy!

BOB's fishing report
Bob wanted to pass on that ice fishing is great this year. Recent snows have made it tough to get around on the lake, however. Shacks were drifted with snow and the "roadways" blew in with snow. But many 7# - 9# walleyes were weighed in at LAKEVIEW Resort already this month.
For updated SD Glacial Lakes Fishing Reports, go to their website
http://www.sdglaciallakes.com/fishing-reports
And speaking of fish, the organizers of the Dakota Sportsmen Fishing Tournament were recently at LAKEVIEW. With the water level up in Poinsett, they told Bob they are really looking forward to the tournament June 12th. More later...

Lookin' ahead for you...
First post of the new year! Thought I'd give the BLOG a new look. Hope you enjoy the extra "gadgets" that were added such as the link to a weather forecast for Lake Poinsett, a dart game you can play right here, a drink and food recipe guide, etc. Scroll down to see some of the rest of the stuff on the left hand side. Play around with them and let me know what you think.
Because of this week's blizzard conditions, Wednesday Night pool and Thursday Night darts were canceled. Tentatively scheduled, the Lakeview Jakebrakers are throwing darts Friday night, Hillbillies-Monday night and Mustangs are away Tuesday night. The Back Pocket pool team is playing at home Saturday night. Balls In has yet to schedule their make-up game away.
Next weekend, Jan 15th, 16th, and 17th are the dates for the Governor's Games at Lake Poinsett. See the Poinsett Pounders' snowmobile club website for more information. You can find that web address on the lakeviewresort at lakepoinsett website.
Looking further ahead into February, we look forward to our I LOVE ELVIS Party. (Tomorrow is the birth of Elvis Presley, 75 years ago. Amazing!) More details coming.
For Valentine's we'll have dinner specials Saturday night, the 13th.
CORRECTION!!
SNOLF (golfing on the snow-covered lake) will be at LAKEVIEW. Scheduling Conflicts have gotten in the way of making a concrete date for the much anticipated SNOLF. And in the confusion I mistakenly reported the date for the "Ride the Ribbon" poker run. The poker run for breast cancer fundraising is Feb. 6th. More on that later. Today we're looking at Saturday, February 13th for SNOLF.
