Starting July 1 South Dakota restaurants can use the new ?corkage? law
3/16/2012 "A new law which allow South Dakota restaurants to better serve their customers goes into effect July 1 (Senate Bill 62).
At the urging of restaurant owners and SDRA, the 2012 South Dakota Legislature approved a law which says restaurants can let customers bring their own bottles of wine into the restaurant. The restaurant...charge[s] the customer a *corkage fee to open and serve the wine. The new law will also allow customers to take unfinished bottles of wine home with them.
This proposal is permissive, meaning that it permits - but doesn't require - restaurants to allow patrons to bring in wine, and to re-cork wine for customers to take with them.
This puts into law what had already been a common practice. Many restaurants had already been offering this service, unaware that it was illegal to do so in South Dakota.
To use the corkage law, restaurants must meet certain criteria, and follow specific steps:
• the restaurant must be licensed to sell wine on-sale
• the restaurant can permit a customer to bring a sealed and unopened bottle of wine onto the licensed premises
• the wine must be served with a meal prepared in the restaurant and served at a table in the restaurant
• the restaurant can charge a corkage fee for serving the wine that has been supplied by the customer. The amount of the fee is set by the restaurant; the law doesn’t set any minimum or maximum.
• if a customer wants to take out any remaining wine, the restaurant (not the customer) must re-cork the wine, either with the original cork or another cap.
• the restaurant must place the unfinished bottle in a sealed bag or other container.
• the restaurant must attach a receipt to the bag or container. The receipt must include both the meal and the corkage fee.
• similar guidelines apply when a customer purchases a bottle of wine from the restaurant and doesn’t finish it. The customer may be permitted to take the remainder of the bottle with them as long as the restaurant securely reseals the bottle with a cork or similar cap, places the bottle in a sealed bag or container, and attaches to the bag a receipt for the meal and the wine.

Last Picnic of the Summer?
Could it be that Labor Day weekend is here already? Traditionally, the last picnic of the summer, signifying an end of the summer; one last long weekend of fun. Maybe for you it signifies 'laboring', as you begin shutting down the lake house.
Whatever your focus this weekend, we at LAKEVIEW want to remind you that our broasted chicken goes well whether as a sit-down meal in our restaurant lakeviewresortlakepoinsett.com or as a TO GO quiet lunch, or as the main dish at a potluck feeding a hungry bunch just getting off the pontoon. Purchase it as a dinner (with a choice of potato and soup or salad) or by the piece. Call for the reasonable prices.
Some have asked about the name. It's not fried chicken, so what is broasting? Broasting combines a special marinating process with high pressure cooking and deep frying to increase the moisture in the chicken. The Broaster company boasts, "Not only does it taste better, but...fewer calories, less fat, lower carbs," and chicken breasts can have as much as 44% more moisture than other cooking methods. Finally they challenge, "You be the judge!"
We ask that you please plan ahead when placing your broasted chicken order. Your chicken will always be fresh, not cooked ahead and kept warming. But with fresh comes cooking time that must be taken into account whether ordering, 'in house' or calling ahead for an order 'to go'.
Enjoy these last days of summer and take time to squeeze in an old-fashioned picnic for an unforgettable memory of the summer of 2012.

Talkin' about the Weather
Everybody's talking this week about the weather. Nice rains followed by cooler temperatures. Makes time spent outside so much more enjoyable. When the temperatures rise so high its un-'bare'-able to be in the water, that's a sign it's just too HOT! Putting those days behind us, it's time to get moving again fixing up, trimming up, mowing and recreating at the lake. Enjoy these precious days we have left of summer. At LAKEVIEW, we'll be looking out for you...

Longing for Yesterday's Lazy Days of Summer?
Today, the official second day of summer, begs the question: does anybody ever have lazy days in summer, anymore? Crazy yes, lazy seldom. With reunions, weddings, and events every weekend squeezed in around fishing, swimming, camping, picnics, golfing, ball games, and vacations...Scheduling all this fun around a job and family obligations can make anyone feel crazy. Does all of this make you long just a little for a little of yesterday?
Well, this weekend, we at LAKEVIEW are proposing you enjoy our more quiet welcome to summer. A nice dinner (Saturday night Specials include: Prime Rib, Country-Style Pork Ribs, and Jumbo Butterfly Shrimp, complemented by the salad bar) followed by a karaoke party without all the 'noise'. A step back to a simpler time when couples and singles met at the local night spot to relax, and visit while enjoying a delicious meal with adult beverages, followed by quality entertainment and music for dancing.
Bob's in the process of improving and updating his karaoke equipment and is ready to 'run the show' this Saturday night. Leading off, a performer from our area will do a live Elvis tribute to set the mood for the evening. It will be fun for all. See you then!
Thank you, thank you very much.

Back to the Lake, a cute story
On a recent visit from Arizona,
five-year-old, R.J., could not be convinced he was back in South
Dakota. Mom
and Dad had told him and his little sister that they were taking an airplane to
go visit Grandma and Poppy who had already been visiting Lake
Poinsett since early summer.
So thinking maybe it was because this trip he had flown here
instead of the long drive they made last year, his family all tried to persuade
him with proof. Stubbornly he refused to
believe them and continued to ask, "When are we going to South
Dakota?"
During the second week of their two-week vacation, they all
decided to come out to LAKEVIEW Resort for lunch. As they pulled into the parking lot, from the
backseat came a loud, excited, five-year-old voice, "Hurray, we found it!" R.J. exclaimed with an accompanying sigh of
relief, "Finally, we found it. We
found South Dakota!"

MISSION Accomplished!
Minnow swallowing Success: Bob, PJ and Judy raised over
$1000 for the Belly Can Challenge.
Congratulations Participants and Thank you Contributors!
1980's Theme Party--BJ from OUTLAW Entertainment
orchestrated the musical karaoke show and trivia contest. Sunglasses and 80's
attire made the night extra special.
The Live Minnow Swallowing Fundraiser began at 10 pm. at LAKEVIEW. Participants swallowed minnows for a good cause. They had been collecting pledges to raise money for the handicapped
accessible dock project on Lake Poinsett.
Over $1000 was raised by the three brave participants!

Judy and Marvin wrote: “Linda and Bob, thanks for
hosting such a fun event. We hope there will be more to come, well, maybe
not eating a minnow. I'm hoping someone got a couple good pictures and they
somehow can get in our area local newspapers. I just realized this morning that
a handicap dock is not just for handicap folks but for anyone not fortune
enough to have a dock to sit on and enjoy the view and water. Perhaps with
more newspaper exposure we can get more groups to participate. If we can help in any way let us know. Here is a list of my donors: Melissa and Matt Nofziger, Cael, Cade and Coby Nofziger, Sarah Nofziger, M. L. Nofziger, Donna and Mike Vardsveen, Korrie and Nick Wallin, Out of State Friends and Relatives”
Pj wrote: "Thanks so much to the crew at Lakeview for a
fun, fun nite at the 80s Party and for hosting the handicap dock fundraiser.

Halvorsen, Jim and Vicki Pantzke, Daryl Lovre, Jim and Rena Martin, Sunflower

supporting my Norwegian sushi meal. It was worth the $500 that went toward the
over $1000 raised last nite! Way to go Lakeview!!"
