SNOLF was a blast!!
39 SNOLFERS gathered at LAKEVIEW Resort between 1 and 1:30. The scramble tournament was over after almost two hours of snow fun in a winter wonderland (see pictures). Two teams tied for first place and shared the prize money. Door prizes were awarded and all were invited to share in the snacks. The day's entertainment ended with DJ and Karaoke music. Date was set for next year. The Saturday of President's Day Weekend--February 19, 2011...

POOTER menu at LAKEVIEW Resort
Introducing the POOTER menu, for those times when lunch or dinner is just not what you want. Tease your appetite with the appetizer menu. Look for the POOTER menu on each table and read what food critic and blogger, Doug Lund (from KELO-land) reported about the delicious LAKEVIEW mozzarella sticks and onion rings. http://blogs.keloland.com/blog/index.cfm?commentID=1588

My Ground Hog Predition
Okay, maybe nobody cares. Ground Hog's Day has come and gone. But I want to go on the record using the ground hog/shadow criteria. I predict the first day of consistent, spring-like weather won't come until the first day of April (which is almost two weeks after the official first day of spring) because Ground Hog's Day began overcast (no shadow) but as the day went on the sun kept peeking out (shadow) and then back to overcast. So not a definite "only six more weeks of winter" but not a go on forever winter, either.

Baby, it's cold outside!
No getting away from the cold this time of year. But relief in sight maybe, in February. Looking forward to Ground Hog's Day next Tuesday. If it's a sunny day (here in South Dakota not Pennsylvania), the Ground Hog will see his shadow. Good news for us if it's sunny, because the prediction is for only six more weeks of winter versus a cloudy day prediction. If it's a cloudy day on Ground Hog's Day (February 2nd) and there is no shadow...well, who knows how much longer winter will hang on. I'm from Duluth and can remember snow banks still in our yard in the middle of May! Anyway...
Looking forward to the Ride for the Ribbon fundraiser for breast cancer next Saturday. The following Saturday, Feb. 13th is our 3rd annual SNOLF tournament (see post from last year).
This weekend is the Living History Fair at the Swiftel Center in Brookings, Saturday 9am to 5pm. See Ole the Norwegian Immigrant at 10am. Abe Lincoln is on the program for 1pm. This presentation was a highlight for us last year. Cowboys will be roaming amongst the displays. Call 605-693-4589 for more information.
And finally, did you know you can play BINGO at the American Legion in Bruce every Saturday night at 7:00 pm with the potential of winning $500 for as little as $8?!

Poinsett Pounders Hosting Governor's Winter Games this weekend
The Poinsett Pounders Snowmobile Club will be busy beginning Friday with a fishing contest on Lake Poinsett. More details on the events can be found at their new website,
http://www.itctel.com/poinsettpounders/
Click on the fireworks picture above to go there.
Our favorite event is the fireworks that are usually shot off right next to LAKEVIEW Resort. There is nothing like the crispness of the fireworks as they cascade down onto a frozen, white lake in the dark. Fireworks begin at dark. You won't want to miss them. Stop in for a cold drink or a hot coffee with a shot of bailey's to warm your tummy. Don't forget our LAKEVIEW Lite Menu along with all of the usual offerings. The weather's cooperating for a fun-filled weekend. Enjoy!

BOB's fishing report
Bob wanted to pass on that ice fishing is great this year. Recent snows have made it tough to get around on the lake, however. Shacks were drifted with snow and the "roadways" blew in with snow. But many 7# - 9# walleyes were weighed in at LAKEVIEW Resort already this month.
For updated SD Glacial Lakes Fishing Reports, go to their website
http://www.sdglaciallakes.com/fishing-reports
And speaking of fish, the organizers of the Dakota Sportsmen Fishing Tournament were recently at LAKEVIEW. With the water level up in Poinsett, they told Bob they are really looking forward to the tournament June 12th. More later...

Lookin' ahead for you...
First post of the new year! Thought I'd give the BLOG a new look. Hope you enjoy the extra "gadgets" that were added such as the link to a weather forecast for Lake Poinsett, a dart game you can play right here, a drink and food recipe guide, etc. Scroll down to see some of the rest of the stuff on the left hand side. Play around with them and let me know what you think.
Because of this week's blizzard conditions, Wednesday Night pool and Thursday Night darts were canceled. Tentatively scheduled, the Lakeview Jakebrakers are throwing darts Friday night, Hillbillies-Monday night and Mustangs are away Tuesday night. The Back Pocket pool team is playing at home Saturday night. Balls In has yet to schedule their make-up game away.
Next weekend, Jan 15th, 16th, and 17th are the dates for the Governor's Games at Lake Poinsett. See the Poinsett Pounders' snowmobile club website for more information. You can find that web address on the lakeviewresort at lakepoinsett website.
Looking further ahead into February, we look forward to our I LOVE ELVIS Party. (Tomorrow is the birth of Elvis Presley, 75 years ago. Amazing!) More details coming.
For Valentine's we'll have dinner specials Saturday night, the 13th.
CORRECTION!!
SNOLF (golfing on the snow-covered lake) will be at LAKEVIEW. Scheduling Conflicts have gotten in the way of making a concrete date for the much anticipated SNOLF. And in the confusion I mistakenly reported the date for the "Ride the Ribbon" poker run. The poker run for breast cancer fundraising is Feb. 6th. More on that later. Today we're looking at Saturday, February 13th for SNOLF.

BLUE MOON - New Year's Eve
Ring in the New Year while enjoying the first Blue Moon* since July of '07. *BLUE MOON is when a month, in this case, December, has 2 full moons in one month.
Our recent blizzard, which was so far-reaching across the country, was hopefully, a snowstorm that occurs just "once in a blue moon."
At LAKEVIEW Resort we'll be serving up surf'n'turf dinners on NEW YEAR'S EVE. 6 oz. Poor Man's Lobster $8.95. An 8oz. Sirloin Steak $9.95. Or combine them--Surf'n'Turf for $14.95.
Bob will be singing Karaoke beginning at 9pm. Bring your friends and create a fun party for you and yours...
LAKEVIEW will be open at 7 am New Year's Day for breakfast (serving until 10:30 am), lunch and dinner specials available until 8 pm. Bar and C-Store will also be open all through the weekend.

Live Music this last weekend, AWESOME!
Just a quick look back at the live music experience we had LAKEVIEW this last weekend. The band, Crossroads made their debut and what an impression that 'class act' made on all that attended! They, (Jeff, Rod, Mike, Buck and Joe) are total professional musicians that come together to create a night of musical magic for all with their mix of classic rock, blues, and a few country and oldies.
We will be watching these guys as they are 'going places'. We'll keep you posted where you can see them for yourself. For bookings call Mike at 605-520-7178 or 882-5764. Hoping to have them back at our place, again, real soon...
Just for fun, below their logo (over to the left of this blog) I found a site that you can sign in to to listen to music (without charge) from the classic rock artists like Eric Clapton's "Crossroads". If you like music like this, you'll be amazed by the live band from South Dakota, Crossroads.
Did you hear on the news today that the Salvation Army of Watertown says, "thank you." They met and surpassed their holiday goal this year, (Yeah!) so the bell-ringers and red buckets will no longer be heard from for the rest of the shopping season. We, at LAKEVIEW, are proud that with your help, we silenced those ringing bells!

At LAKEVIEW, We're Lookin' Out for You...
At LAKEVIEW, We're lookin' out for You. This weekend you are invited to a Christmas Party featuring the area's newest band, CROSSROADS, playing classic rock, country, oldies and blues! They'll be playing two (2) nights, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 18th and 19th beginning at 9pm (until 1:00 am.) both nights. No Cover Charge.
We've asked the Watertown SALVATION ARMY to provide a red bucket for our donations. While celebrating the holidays, we can help them continue their tradition of doing the most good, for those in need!
Since 1897, the Salvation Army has been in Watertown, providing Christian based assistance to those in need in our area. Americans have made the Salvation Army their favorite way to help others. Their outreach has been a long respected wonder of kindness and generosity. Help us help them aid those that have fallen on hard times now and throughout the year, by providing food, shelter, clothing, medical help and transportation.

ice on, snow blew through...
As of last weekend, under the full moon the lakes froze over. Yesterday the wind blew alot of snow around. Today, a clear sky with sunshine and single digits.
But don't let the cold dampen your spirits. It looks alot like Christmas...don't forget the tour of homes on the east side this Sunday.
And make plans to invite family and friends to the 2-night Christmas Party with a live band, CROSSROADS, at LAKEVIEW Resort, Dec. 18th and 19th. Donations to the Salvation Army's red bucket that we'll have on hand, will be appreciated. Remember to bring your own mistletoe!

Update: Lake Level Ruling by State Water Management Board put Controversy on Hold
If you want to know more about the lake level hearing, The Brookings Register, this week, has the best written article I've seen about how this controversy stands, for now. The state decided to bar the Lake Poinsett Water Project District Board from raising a flood gate that only allows water to flow out from Lake Poinsett into the river. The LP Water Project District Board was seeking the option to allow (spring thaw) overflow water in from the Big Sioux River to supplement natural runoff to keep the lake at the full level.
I decided early on, not use this blog as an editorial page for this issue, as it is too emotionally charged for all concerned. I contend the ruling is part of a much bigger picture that I choose not to share from here...

Where've I been and what's coming...
If you haven't stopped by the resort lately, you'll be pleasantly surprised with the painting we've been doing. Nice warm rust and brown on the walls and some new window treatments. The tree is up and we have some supplemental heaters, so feeling pretty cozy.
Family will be gathering and utilizing the extra space at the resort, to all get together to celebrate Thanksgiving. The Kitchen and Bar will be CLOSED but the C-Store will be open for your convenience from 11am-4pm.
Friday night we have our first dart tournament of the season. Come on out for something to eat and stick around for a fun time. Registration is at 7:30pm. Speaking of something to eat, we are offering a new LAKEVIEW Lite Menu--an assortment of smaller entrees served up with fries or potato salad for $4.95. Stop in anytime for a quick, affordable, smaller bite to eat from that menu. Of course our regular menu (and specials) are still available.
Looking ahead--we are happy to announce that we have a new LIVE BAND setting up for Friday and Saturday night, Dec. 18th and 19th. Come out and enjoy, "CROSSROADS" playing classic rock and some country. Bring your friends and create your own Christmas Party and don't forget the mistletoe!

Hunting/Fishing/Darts/Pool/Color Change
Farmings on hold with temperatures plummeting to below zero, snow, and I must add gloomy skies. An end is in sight coming this weekend just in time for the opening pheasant hunt weekend. Fall fishing is underway. Before it turned frigid outside, we were getting reports of good fishing -walleye and smallmouth bass in particular. We had a bachelor party weekend, the first weekend in Oct. The Minnesota guys filled all three of our cabins and had a blast eating and drinking in the resort while fishing both days. Among their catch was a smallmouth that was just short of the state record caught a year and a half ago. Check out the record and links at our website: http://lakeviewresortlakepoinsett.com/
Dart and Pool leagues begin this week. Darts and Pool leagues in our area are being governed this year by United Games, Inc. Going to their website, unitedgamesinc.com will show schedules, standings, and tournaments so you can follow your favorite teams as they travel from LAKEVIEW to other establishments around the Hamlin County area.
LAKEVIEW Resort is proud to sponsor three dart teams that play on Thursday nights:
the MUSTANGS, the JAKE BRAKERS, and the HILLBILLIES. Find their schedule at:
http://unitedgamesinc.com/schedules/hamlin county_thursday darts.pdf
LAKEVIEW Resort is also proud to sponsor two pool teams that play on Wednesday nights:
the BACK POCKETS and the BALLS IN team. Link to find their schedule at:
http://unitedgamesinc.com/schedules/hamlin county_wednesday pool.pdf
And finally, color change all around us with the freezing of all the flowers and tree leaves has prompted a color change on the walls of the resort. Beginning tonight, the resort is getting a long-needed face-lift, one wall at a time with a warm rust and brown color scheme being applied. I think we're all going to like the new, cozy feel.
