MISSION Accomplished!

Minnow swallowing Success: Bob, PJ and Judy raised over $1000 for the Belly Can Challenge.  Congratulations Participants and Thank you Contributors!

1980's Theme Party--BJ from OUTLAW Entertainment orchestrated the musical karaoke show and trivia contest. Sunglasses and 80's attire made the night extra special.

The Live Minnow Swallowing Fundraiser began at 10 pm. at LAKEVIEW. Participants swallowed minnows for a good cause. They had been collecting pledges to raise money for the handicapped accessible dock project on Lake Poinsett. Over $1000 was raised by the three brave participants!

Judy and Marvin wrote: “Linda and Bob, thanks for hosting such a fun event. We hope there will be more to come, well, maybe not eating a minnow. I'm hoping someone got a couple good pictures and they somehow can get in our area local newspapers. I just realized this morning that a handicap dock is not just for handicap folks but for anyone not fortune enough to have a dock to sit on and enjoy the view and water. Perhaps with more newspaper exposure we can get more groups to participate. If we can help in any way let us know. Here is a list of my donors:  Melissa and Matt Nofziger, Cael, Cade and Coby Nofziger, Sarah Nofziger, M. L. Nofziger, Donna and Mike Vardsveen, Korrie and Nick Wallin, Out of State Friends and Relatives”

Pj wrote: "Thanks so much to the crew at Lakeview for a fun, fun nite at the 80s Party and for hosting the handicap dock fundraiser. Can't believe I ate a live minnow!! Thanks to Craig Schoen, Bob Quigley, Lowell Richardson, Marv Nofziger, and Chris Fischer from the Lake Poinsett Area Development Assoc for over $300 in donations, and to Don Lappe, Norma Halvorsen, Jim and Vicki Pantzke, Daryl Lovre, Jim and Rena Martin, Sunflower Salon and Spa, Cheryl McClemans and Bob Anderson, and Terry Turner for supporting my Norwegian sushi meal. It was worth the $500 that went toward the over $1000 raised last nite! Way to go Lakeview!!"

Color Me Happy.....Kids Coloring Pages--Celebrating Spring & Return of the Pelicans

This is for the Kids!

Hey Kids!
Help us decorate LAKEVIEW for spring.  Color the pelican pages (included as pdf. pages in this blog for downloading or pick up your copy at LAKEVIEW) and return them to LAKEVIEW by April 28th so we can hang them.

Use your imagination and any medium to color the pages.  We left the back blank for you to add any information about yourself that you choose (ex. name, age, town or city, school etc.) to include with your 'masterpiece'.

The first twenty kids that return their colored page(s) will receive a $2 gift certificate from LAKEVIEW. We will display the colored pelican pages until June 21st.  If you want your page(s) back, you can pick them up at LAKEVIEW June 22nd until July 1, 2012.

Thank you for your help to celebrate spring and the return of the American White Pelicans to the Poinsett Area LakeS. And we'd like to take this opportunity to thank artist, Susan Fisher for contributing the hand-drawn pelican pages for coloring and also the photo of  the pelican wearing sunglasses.

New Look for Blog and Website

It's been a very busy winter and early spring here at the lake.  The weather has been unbelievably mild all winter. And for the last month we've been enjoying springlike weather most days.  There are many signs of spring and quick posts to Facebook have documented some of that activity.

You may have noticed the new look for this blog.  There are other changes as well.  Along with an updated look to the LAKEVIEW website, there is now an item in the menu of the website that takes you directly to this blog. There is still more to do, but that nice weather is pulling me outside and away from my desk. Now that much of that technical work is behind me, and I've streamlined the process, I hope to reach out to you through the blog and email more often about what's going on at the lake.

So in the meantime, take a few minutes and browse the new pages of this blog and see what you think of the updated LAKEVIEW website. Check out the links.  They are full of information.  If you have trouble opening any of them, please let me know by emailing:  lakeviewresortsd@hotmail.com  I appreciate your feedback.

Poinsett Update Email Received

One year ago I started giving heads up on the flooding potential. This year the outlook is much brighter for avoiding flood conditions. Our snow amount (we don't have any) could change, but the dry soil conditions, shallow ground frost and available storage area in numerous wetlands will contain a substantial amount of precipitation if it does come.

The one concern is the normal 'ice out method'. With large areas of Lake Poinsett already open and yet very hard 12 inch plus ice on the rest of it, this could be a different 'ice out condition'. Usually we hope for a warm up that honeycombs the ice long before we get open water. Open water allows the wind to really drive ice. Worst case is that we get those high winds before the ice has even begun to melt and it drives hard ice onto shore. The photos sent are to emphasize the unique situation happening currently on Lake Poinsett with the ice.
