As we begin the Poinsett Pounder's weekend, in a quiet moment reflect on how fragile life can be and thank God for the beauty of our Poinsett area lakes, now covered in a crisp white blanket of snow. Safe travels, have fun and let the games begin!!

From the Poinsett Pounders

An email also received, today:

Greetings All.

I would like to let everyone know that due to unsafe ice conditions, the Pounder’s / KWAT ice fishing tournament set for this Friday January 20th has been cancelled. We had extensive discussions with KWAT and the decision to cancel was made due to safety reasons.

All other events are a GO…I look forward to everyone showing up and helping make this year’s Games a success!!

As we are talking safety…..with the current cold temps and possibly snow, the ice on area lakes can potentially be more dangerous than earlier this year. If the water which has previously been open now freezes and is covered with snow, there is no way to know how thick the ice is! If anyone plans to ride snowmobiles or ATVs during this year’s poker run, please STAY OFF THE ICE!!

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me @ 605-880-1586. Thanks. dug

Passing on an email we received today:

Subject: Poinsett update Jan 18,2012

Poinsett weather has been anything but normal. A November, December and first 1/3 of January that averaged 20 to 30 degrees above normal. While those here have enjoyed the southern like temps, it has caused some real dangers to those participating in winter lake ice activities. Monday, Lake Poinsett claimed the life of an ice fisherman that drove his ATV into open water after becoming disoriented at dark during a small snow squall that passed through the area.
The Annual Poinsett fishing contest has been cancelled for this weekend in hopes of not repeating a tragedy similar to Monday's. The Poinsett Pounders Snowmobile activities will continue this weekend utilizing the 1-2 inches of snow currently on the ground and is probably safe with temps back to normal subzero levels for this week.

Dawn of a New Day

Link to LAKEVIEW's Facebook page/www.facebook.com/flyin9ace?ref=tn_tnmn

This past week is a benchmark for the LAKEVIEW crew. Looking back,
we have now been back in business for as long as we were out of business due to the flooding (4-1/2 months). With that in mind, we want to thank all of our loyal customers for your support as we have put the pieces back together and once again made a ‘go of it’.

We also need to share our appreciation to ‘Mother Nature’ for extending our beautiful fall weather (beyond anyone’s expectations) way past the date on the calendar that marks the official first day of winter (Dec. 22nd- a.k.a. winter solstice). None of us can control the weather, but thank you for the part you played in keeping our doors open. The combination of blessings made for a great re-opening!

So now we are dawning on a new day. Looking ahead, the weather seems to be cooperating now for celebrating winter and the accompanying fun. What could be more exciting than the Poinsett Area Lakes of SD coming alive with the Poinsett Pounders Snowmobile Club’s annual winter activities? Friday, January 20th is the fishing tournament. Don’t miss the spectacular fireworks at dark on Saturday night. Poker runs and fun for the kids. For more information, go to their website: poinsettpounders.com

While we’re on the subject of outdoor winter fun, the date for SNOLF – golf on snow – at LAKEVIEW is Saturday, February 11th. Anyone who has attended this event will tell you it’s a blast for the participants and those that just want to watch and be affectionately known by a term we’ve adopted, as the “window lickers” (referring to man’s best friend). Everybody is welcome to come and join in the ‘after party’. The fun starts in the afternoon and goes long into the night. At the top of this page, in the search box you can type in snolf for stories from previous years.

Saturday and Sunday, January 28th and 29th we have a special event planned at LAKEVIEW. To commemorate the dawning of a new day, we have had the privilege of a hosting local artist painting a mural on the wall in our dining room. See the event at facebook: lake-poinsett's-lakeview-resort
https://www.facebook.com/events/277485375639139/

Her lovely depiction of our region, our Poinsett area lakes of South Dakota, will be the highlight of a ‘meet and greet the artist’ event, Sunday from 3:00 – 6:00 pm.

Susan will also be on hand from 6-9 pm. Saturday night, Jan. 28th, and we thought a musical treat would also be appropriate and have arranged for our favorite band out of Watertown to return and entertain us once again. CROSSROADS Band, a real 'class act, will be rocking the house with your favorite rock, blues and country hits beginning at 9pm.

Indulge yourself while showing your support and appreciation for the arts. Mark the last weekend of January on your calendar and share with your friends. Spend some time at LAKEVIEW finding common ground with a painter and some musicians that truly enjoy making our lives and times together, richer and more colorful.
