BLUE MOON - New Year's Eve

Ring in the New Year while enjoying the first Blue Moon* since July of '07. *BLUE MOON is when a month, in this case, December, has 2 full moons in one month.
Our recent blizzard, which was so far-reaching across the country, was hopefully, a snowstorm that occurs just "once in a blue moon."

At LAKEVIEW Resort we'll be serving up surf'n'turf dinners on NEW YEAR'S EVE. 6 oz. Poor Man's Lobster $8.95. An 8oz. Sirloin Steak $9.95. Or combine them--Surf'n'Turf for $14.95.

Bob will be singing Karaoke beginning at 9pm. Bring your friends and create a fun party for you and yours...

LAKEVIEW will be open at 7 am New Year's Day for breakfast (serving until 10:30 am), lunch and dinner specials available until 8 pm. Bar and C-Store will also be open all through the weekend.

Live Music this last weekend, AWESOME!

Just a quick look back at the live music experience we had LAKEVIEW this last weekend. The band, Crossroads made their debut and what an impression that 'class act' made on all that attended! They, (Jeff, Rod, Mike, Buck and Joe) are total professional musicians that come together to create a night of musical magic for all with their mix of classic rock, blues, and a few country and oldies.

We will be watching these guys as they are 'going places'. We'll keep you posted where you can see them for yourself. For bookings call Mike at 605-520-7178 or 882-5764. Hoping to have them back at our place, again, real soon...

Just for fun, below their logo (over to the left of this blog) I found a site that you can sign in to to listen to music (without charge) from the classic rock artists like Eric Clapton's "Crossroads". If you like music like this, you'll be amazed by the live band from South Dakota, Crossroads.

Did you hear on the news today that the Salvation Army of Watertown says, "thank you." They met and surpassed their holiday goal this year, (Yeah!) so the bell-ringers and red buckets will no longer be heard from for the rest of the shopping season. We, at LAKEVIEW, are proud that with your help, we silenced those ringing bells!

At LAKEVIEW, We're lookin' out for You. This weekend you are invited to a Christmas Party featuring the area's newest band, CROSSROADS, playing classic rock, country, oldies and blues! They'll be playing two (2) nights, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 18th and 19th beginning at 9pm (until 1:00 am.) both nights. No Cover Charge.

Their outreach has been a long respected wonder of kindness and generosity. Help us help them aid those that have fallen on hard times now and throughout the year, by providing food, shelter, clothing, medical help and transportation.

ice on, snow blew through...

As of last weekend, under the full moon the lakes froze over. Yesterday the wind blew alot of snow around. Today, a clear sky with sunshine and single digits.
But don't let the cold dampen your spirits. It looks alot like Christmas...don't forget the tour of homes on the east side this Sunday.
And make plans to invite family and friends to the 2-night Christmas Party with a live band, CROSSROADS, at LAKEVIEW Resort, Dec. 18th and 19th. Donations to the Salvation Army's red bucket that we'll have on hand, will be appreciated. Remember to bring your own mistletoe!

Update: Lake Level Ruling by State Water Management Board put Controversy on Hold

If you want to know more about the lake level hearing, The Brookings Register, this week, has the best written article I've seen about how this controversy stands, for now. The state decided to bar the Lake Poinsett Water Project District Board from raising a flood gate that only allows water to flow out from Lake Poinsett into the river. The LP Water Project District Board was seeking the option to allow (spring thaw) overflow water in from the Big Sioux River to supplement natural runoff to keep the lake at the full level.

I decided early on, not use this blog as an editorial page for this issue, as it is too emotionally charged for all concerned. I contend the ruling is part of a much bigger picture that I choose not to share from here...

If you haven't stopped by the resort lately, you'll be pleasantly surprised with the painting we've been doing. Nice warm rust and brown on the walls and some new window treatments. The tree is up and we have some supplemental heaters, so feeling pretty cozy.

Hunting/Fishing/Darts/Pool/Color Change

Farmings on hold with temperatures plummeting to below zero, snow, and I must add gloomy skies. An end is in sight coming this weekend just in time for the opening pheasant hunt weekend. Fall fishing is underway. Before it turned frigid outside, we were getting reports of good fishing -walleye and smallmouth bass in particular. We had a bachelor party weekend, the first weekend in Oct. The Minnesota guys filled all three of our cabins and had a blast eating and drinking in the resort while fishing both days. Among their catch was a smallmouth that was just short of the state record caught a year and a half ago. Check out the record and links at our website: http://lakeviewresortlakepoinsett.com/

Dart and Pool leagues begin this week. Darts and Pool leagues in our area are being governed this year by United Games, Inc. Going to their website, unitedgamesinc.com will show schedules, standings, and tournaments so you can follow your favorite teams as they travel from LAKEVIEW to other establishments around the Hamlin County area.
LAKEVIEW Resort is proud to sponsor three dart teams that play on Thursday nights:
the MUSTANGS, the JAKE BRAKERS, and the HILLBILLIES. Find their schedule at:
http://unitedgamesinc.com/schedules/hamlin county_thursday darts.pdf

LAKEVIEW Resort is also proud to sponsor two pool teams that play on Wednesday nights:
the BACK POCKETS and the BALLS IN team. Link to find their schedule at:
http://unitedgamesinc.com/schedules/hamlin county_wednesday pool.pdf

And finally, color change all around us with the freezing of all the flowers and tree leaves has prompted a color change on the walls of the resort. Beginning tonight, the resort is getting a long-needed face-lift, one wall at a time with a warm rust and brown color scheme being applied. I think we're all going to like the new, cozy feel.

Passin' the Word...

Residents of Lake Poinsett have a very important meeting this Thursday, Oct. 8th at 8 am. at 523 East Capitol Ave., in Pierre, SD for the purpose of the State Water Board hearing the proposal for control of the outlet gates. FYI: Currently the permit only allows the gates to be open to control the level of the lake by allowing water to leave Lake Poinsett. No water may enter the lake through the gates. Show your support if you want control of the water level of Lake Poinsett. If you need more information contact, John Bjorkman 605-785-3366 or Dave Peterson 605-983-5090.

YET ANOTHER BIRTHDAY PARTY, FRIDAY!

Hey, in case you didn't make it to the last birthday party...WE HAD A GREAT TIME with both DJ and karaoke music going strong until closing. This Friday night, Diane from Arlington is celebrating her birthday at LAKEVIEW! It will be a blast! How do I know? A couple of years (birthdays) ago, we had a birthday bash for Diane at our place and I'm sure she'll surpass the fun we had then. And we also have a weekend bachelor party (from Minnesota) going on in the cabins in our campground. See you at the lake...

LIVE DJ/KJ Dance Party Saturday Night at LAKEVIEW

Hey, You'd think I'd lost my password to get into this blog or something. I just thought this summer was busy. Early Fall is full of stuff to do--hunting, weddings, company here from Arizona (and so happy for the nice, cooler than AZ weather), tree and grass planting, harvesting, canning produce from the garden or farmer's market. Whew!!

So I could tell you about the area's "happenings"(did you know we have a square dancing group in Watertown? and toilet races in Arlington!?!) but instead I just remind you of the DJ/KJ dance party this Saturday night beginning at 9pm. Come out, relax, and just enjoy the fun for a night...

Lake Meeting Saturday morning

From the LAPADA web site, "August 29th at 9:00AM in the Chapel at Lake Poinsett Camp, there is a member meeting to discuss the weed issues on the lake. Please remind your neighbors and come to cuss and discuss solutions to the weeds."
"The board meeting, following the Weed Meeting, will not be an official board meeting (not enough notice has been given). Board Members please plan to attend a brief informal get together to share information after the Weed Meeting."

And then I found the following survey being conducted on the LAPADA web site. Go there "http://lpada.com/index.html">and cast your vote before it ends 16 hours from now which will be what 4 pm on Saturday.

Do you want the Flood Control Gates actively managed (opened and closed) to maintain the lake level?
Yes - open and close gates to maintain the lake level

No - only open the gates when the lake is higher than the river

The survey finishes in 16 hours

Catchin' up on the news...

Last week, I weighed a 3.2# silver bass-a proud angler. The Oakwood Lakes carp tournament was held last Saturday with 36 participating teams. They caught 590 pounds of carp. Read about it in the Hamlin County paper. There was also an article written by Larry Leeds about the effect of the water levels in Poinsett entitled, "Lake level has strong impact on business." Bob was interviewed along with Dave Peterson and Jeff Jager. "With the water level up the attitude of the people is much better," Bob was quoted as saying which pretty much sums it up.

Did you see the double rainbow, Monday night?

I was waiting for the lightening to stop before turning on the computer, when I looked into the sky and spotted not just one, but two brightly colored rainbows arching from Lake Albert to Lake Poinsett.

More rain! and in the middle of July. Check past blogs for links for rainfall or lake levels.

Update on Lake Poinsett Water Project District meeting that was postponed until October...The change in the meeting date was due to an "emergency health issue to one of the primary witnesses," as reported by the Hamlin County Republican. If you want to read the permit go to the LAPADA website.

Kelo-land's Doug Lund's Review that included LAKEVIEW Resort

Lund's Annual Lake And Food Review
Posted by: Doug Lund - 07/02/2009 12:00 AM

Just back from another mini vacation..or “stay-cation” as some might call it. The cell phone stays in the glove compartment and the computer remains in the case…okay, I did have it along but only fired it up once.

I’ve written here before how much Linda and I enjoy our annual summer sojourns to Watertown..me for the golf..she for the casino.

Our friends and traveling partners, Denny and Joanie accompanied us again and, as always, we consumed copious amounts of distilled and or brewed beverages as well as enough unhealthy but delicious food (with one exception) to make an Atkins dietician faint.

We like to get off the interstate on these trips and take the back roads through small towns often stopping to check out some of the local establishments.

One of our favorites is The Lakeview Resort on the West side of Lake Poinsett. The dining area has a terrific view of the water, which, by the way is the highest I’ve seen it in years.

But the real reason we like the resort so much is because of the breaded deep fried mozzarella sticks they serve which are the best any of us have ever tasted. We all agreed too that their onion rings are nearly as good as at Michael’s Restaurant in Sioux Falls which is saying a lot.

Did you get out?

Saturday, a picture-perfect, mid-June day for fun in and around the lake. I'll admit I was pretty happy to spend it lounging on the "not-yet-finished-deck" over at our place before going in to work for the night shift.

On Poinsett, sailboats and fishing boats dotted the eight acres of water. I heard the top total for five fish caught was over 18# and the largest was over 7#.

Speaking of water, the controversy over water levels in Poinsett was on the cover of the Watertown Public Opinion's weekend edition. My question is: why (and who authorized) are the gates now open letting water flow OUT of the lake into the Sioux River?

Catchin' up on the Fish Tales of Poinsett

April 6, 2009 Michael Weber of Brookings landed a record, 23-inch, 5#-12oz. white sucker in Lake Poinsett.

May 8th, Bryan Dykstra used a bow and arrow to take a state record, 38-inch, 42#-4oz. common carp in Lake Poinsett. Both of these were taken legally but by unconventional methods, therefore are listed in the unrestricted record category.

May 31, 2009, Adam Arendsee caught a record 4#-5oz. black bullhead in Lake Poinsett. Speaking of bullheads, check out a great article, "Yella Belly" by storyteller, Tom Hayes in the June 2009 issue of The Outdoorsmen Magazine. Pick up a copy at LAKEVIEW Resort or email them at outdoorsmen@iw.net for more information about their locally produced (Flandreau, SD), most excellent, monthly magazine full of valuable articles.

Congratulations to all of these record anglers. If anyone has pictures of these record fish, please forward them to our email address, phone #, or bring in a copy to LAKEVIEW and we'll post them for all to see.

And still standing is the record 6#-9oz. smallmouth bass caught April 27, 2008 by Darin Laue.

For a complete list of state records, visit www.sdgfp.info/Wildlife/fishing/Info/StateRecords.htm

We hope to have the same support for the karaoke contest as we did last month. By hosting a contest, we were blessed with some of the best singers from the area. The audience was thrilled with not only the quality of the entertainment, but also with their opportunity to participate by voting for their favorite "act".

Sharing Your Fish Pictures

I've been providing our email address to those that want to share their fish pictures with us. That has worked for some, but what might be easier is to just send your photo from your cell phone to my cell phone. Find the picture that you've saved in your camera phone and SEND it to 605-881-9313 (like you are sending a text message). You may be charged (like $.15 cents) if you don't have text messaging in your phone plan. But that will work for getting your pictures into the online album. This week I saw a 5#2oz. small mouth bass and a proud angler walleye. This morning a 9# walleye weighed in at the resort...

HUGE THANK YOU!

A Huge THANK YOU to all who made our 10-year anniversary celebration a fun and memorable event!
Thank you to all for the gifts and well-wishes from those that were there and to those of you that had other commitments, but were there in spirit.
Our food, liquor, and beer distributors generously donated to the enjoyment of the weekend.
Our kitchen people outdid themselves with the 'Bourbon Steak' while providing the quality meals we've all come to expect. So thankful to have Dee back on hand. She made up the week's chili and "mannned" the till.
The live band, ONE NIGHT ONLY, was absolutely awesome; singing and playing to the enthusiastic crowd who succeeded in convincing them to do an encore for one last dance.
The karaoke singers made our first ever, Karaoke Contest, a 'must-do' for every 3rd Saturday of each month. What fun and great listening for all!
Barb Carlson baked the beautiful (and delicious) cake and cookies for the Pinata Party. Those kids were so determined to break open that stubborn donkey so he'd release the hidden treats for them. They all took turns swinging for over a half-hour. They truly earned what finally came tumbling out of the pinata!
And finally, to our friends Mary & Dick who are always there to help...a heartfelt thank you, too.

Fishing Report: They Are Out There, We've Got Proof!

I have updated the online fish photo album with more, (and more recent photos) of fish caught and brought in to LAKEVIEW. However, I'm frustrated that I can't get the slideshow on this page to reflect the updates. I also failed in trying to provide the link here on the blog to the online album of fish. I'll work on it on this end, but in the meantime, go back to the lakeviewresortlakepoinsett web page. On the fishing/hunting page is the link. Click it to go right to the album.
Speaking of photo albums. When at LAKEVIEW, look for the photo album of the last 10 years. I have more photos online I'll share throughout the next few months...

Winds blow

Like the public boat launches on Lake Poinsett filled in with sifted sand, my poor old computer was rendered almost useless by the barrage of saved stuff that had accumulated on my hard drive. So I have spent time this week 'digging out.' Now I am finally at to the point where maintenance will keep me operable. GF&P is in the process of contracting for a 'dig out' of the public boat ramp next to LAKEVIEW and to have weekly maintenance 'dig outs'. After all, these last two weeks have made it obvious that the wind here in South Dakota is not going to quit blowing.

It's here, the Anniversary Celebration Weekend!

Been quite a whirlwind here preparing for this weekend's festivities. Hope you all get a chance to stop by and join in the fun. Thanks to all of our food, liquor, pop, & beer distributors, we have some very nice and unique prizes to raffle throughout the weekend.

Published in South Dakota Magazine

FYI Lake Poinsett: A City on the Beach is on the cover of the May/June 2009 South Dakota magazine. http://www.southdakotamagazine.com/current_issue.php An unidentified donor left a copy at the resort. We are very grateful to them for sharing. It was thrilling to read and enjoy the wonderful color pictures of familiar faces.

The article begins with history. Early visitors to our lake found cactus on its shore. Lake Poinsett was named in 1938, to honor the statesman, Joel Poinsett. In his travels, Joel Poinsett also brought back to the United States (and named) the Poinsettia plant that he discovered was part of their Mexican Christmas celebration.

Get your hands on this magazine and experience, "Poinsett's Enduring Charm" by Chuck Cecil and "Celebrating Our Ethnic Ways" by John Andrews which highlights Lake Norden's St. Urho celebration every March.

Don't Forget Mother, Sunday, May 10th

We will have our annual Mother's Day Buffet, Sunday, May 10th. Serving from 11am to 2:00pm. Dee was running the cash register this last weekend. (So nice to have her back on board.) Hopefully, she'll be there every weekend.

Back at it...

Last week, we spent under the sunny skies of Denver, CO (although a little snow still on the ground here and there amongst the tulips). Bob had his annual check-up at Craig. All checked out positively and we both got plenty of "hug therapy" from friends and family (my brother and sister-in-law and Bob's cousin and her family) there.

We got back Friday night in time for work. Saturday was the Waterboard meeting. There was a reporter there from the Hamlin County Republic and I do encourage you to purchase the paper.
The way I see it, in a nutshell, even though the water level is coming up on Poinsett, the board is going before the state to ask for local control of the outlet gate in the future.

Been busy brainstorming and planning a fun and action-packed, 10-year anniversary celebration at LAKEVIEW Resort May 14th-17th. Will be sharing the details shortly.

Lookin' Good...

With what felt like an extra long winter now behind us, here at the lake, we've got spring fever as folks are stopping by to say hello. I liken it to those first birds of spring that inspire us with the sites and sounds letting us know, "we're back!" And for some, it's, "honey, I'm HOME!"
To all, let me say, "WELCOME BACK, we're all going to make it an extraordinary summer to enjoy at Lake Poinsett. Right on..."

This weekend

FYI Some have asked when Mary & Dick will be up. Looking forward to them being with us this weekend. Don't know if they're planning to stay in their camper or not. Getting a jump on the camping season, Mike and Missy spent last Saturday night in our campground in their camper.

We will be closed this Sunday to spend time with our families. Hope you get to do the same...Happy Easter!

taxes, spring cleaning & darts

This last week I set out to put together our taxes. But after sitting at the dining room table for over an hour with papers, file folders and mini-mountains of receipts scattered before me, I had this urge to eat something. After a quick trip to the kitchen settling on an apple and some snack crackers, I was back at the "tax thing" for a few minutes when in the middle of what I had filed in January 2008, I had to get up and go to the bathroom. While there I couldn't stop myself from scrubbing the bathroom sink, the floor, wiping down the shower and the mirror and so it went all week. Every time I basically chained myself to sit and 'do taxes' my short attention span for the task would send me into either an eating or cleaning frenzy. Finally, cleaning won out in the struggle and eventually the taxes got done. Maybe next year I'll plan to do it in the same way and not give in to so many snack crackers along the way.

Anyway, LAKEVIEW Resort is proud of their Renegades team that claimed 2nd place in the dart season this year. They were awarded a trophy (that we will proudly display) at the dart party last Friday. Bob was there to thank the Poinsett Area Dart League for supporting our dart tournaments held monthly this last year and to invite all to come out this Friday night for our final dart tournament of the season.

Registration is at 7:30. Play begins at 8:00pm. Maybe we'll see you there.

Annual Meeting of LPWPD April 25th

This week's Hamlin County Herald Enterprise reported that Lorin Pankratz, chairman of the Lake Poinsett Water Project District (LPWPD), called for a meeting last Monday, in Pierre with the Governor's Chief of Staff, Game, Fish and Parks and the secretary of DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources). The purpose of the meeting was to address the flooding of farm land by the Big Sioux River while Lake Poinsett is still experiencing low water level (at least 2' below full).

The story is very interesting reading while capturing the emotional confrontation that led to the local authorities being summoned to the scene where the outlet gates were temporarily opened to allow water in to the lake without authorization. The article gives a very good synopsis of the frustration of residents of Lake Poinsett as the low water level has plagued the lake in recent years. People are on both sides of the issue of quality vs. quantity of the lake water.

Chairman Pankratz was quoted as saying about the upcoming meeting that will be held at the Lake Poinsett Methodist Camp April 25th, "We all need to try and understand the other's point of view and find grounds for compromise." Bob and I will be there. Hope to see you there...

Ice story from Keloland April 1

Had some inquiries Wednesday about the story some had seen on TV news about the ice on Poinsett. Push PLAY to watch the video about an isolated case on the west side of the lake. They made it look pretty scary, which I'm sure it was for those couple of lake home owners...

Lake Poinsett ICE OFF, April 1st!

No foolin'!! I write with double joy about the ice off. After a lion's last roar sending March packin', the storm yesterday was followed by open water, not from the warm weather but instead from the strong wind pushing the ice around.

As if that isn't exciting enough, I put in my 2 bucks and luckily picked the day on the local ICE OFF board. Stop in to LAKEVIEW and tell me you read about this on this blog and I'll buy you a drink at the resort this week with my winnings (Wednesday-Saturday night 5:30-9:00pm).

Thank you to clubfisher for sharing their adventure on film of yesterday's storm. Enjoy the new slide show.

ICE OFF !! (on Lake Albert)

Lake Albert's ice vanished overnight in the wind, but Lake Poinsett's ice is more stubborn. However, both lake's are up and unofficially the word is Poinsett is up another 6" since last week. I think that makes it less than a foot below full. With the forecast for more snow (9-13"for Watertown) and water running in from the west and in from Dry Lake under stone bridge, things are looking good for the lake this year. Thank God the Red River that begins near Wahpeton, flows north. We don't want that much water all at once. But our thoughts and prayers are with the people of North Dakota battling the flood waters.

Lake Poinsett area water update

The lake is coming up, some saying it's already up 6-8" since last week, and we have open water half way out in front of LAKEVIEW!

This week's Hamlin Cty newspaper reported that Monday, in the early morning hours, the Castlewood and Estelline area received "between 3-1/2 to five inches of rain," according to the Hamlin Emergency Director. The Sioux River rose about two feet during that time and was expected to crest, Tuesday.

Speaking of water, the Hamlin County Ducks Unlimited Banquet begins with a social hour at 5:30 pm Saturday, March 28th in Castlewood. For tickets and more information contact Greg Archer (793-2522) at the paper www.hamlincountypublishing.com

Hey, come out this weekend and check out our new menus with your old favorites along with some new offerings. We have a new scrumptious butterfly shrimp dinner. How about the broasted catfish everybody's raving about!? And for cod lovers we still have the fish special every Friday night. Saturday night's specials include prime rib for $15.95 or BBQ pork ribs for $11.95. As always, the broasted chicken, our specialty, is a favorite everyday!

after the excitement dies down...

Between the SDSU women's basketball team being in the national playoffs, (Sunday and Tuesday) and the rains of Monday night, today finds us down. Playoffs ended abruptly in last half-second of the game and our peek at spring seems over for now as the cold and snow are trying to move back in.

But first of all, "How 'bout them Jacks?" Didn't they made us all proud!!

And then the rain! All of the area lakes and streams are flowing hard. Bob drove around yesterday and found some country roads are under water as the creeks rise above their banks.

I went to the cocorahs website (mentioned in an earlier post, see below) to find local precipitation levels. Reporters in Brookings registered .42-.47 inches in their rain gauges. Watertown, White, and Hayti measurements were 1.56-1.76 inches. But Lake Norden's total was 2.66 inches!

If you'd like to be a volunteer with cocorah and report rainfall, visit the following link for more information. http://www.cocorahs.org/Application.aspx

Week blew by and now we're watching spring waters...

Did this week just blow by, or what? St. Urho and St. Patrick's day celebrations, snow melting, temporary ponds luring in Canadian geese, Snows and Blues in huge flocks rising and falling over the frozen lakes, first robin spotted and today it's officially the first day of spring. Whew!

We took a trip down to the Ortman Chiropractic Clinic ortmanclinic.com and stayed overnight at the Ortman Hotel in Canistota. Beautiful weather for travel and running errands in Sioux Falls and Brookings.

For more information about the geese migration, or the Spring Light Goose Season that runs until May 3rd, visit the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks website sdgfp.info

The Hamlin County Conservation Officer Kraig Haase was quoted in the Hamlin County Herald Enterprise hamlincountypublishing.com this week regarding water level in Poinsett. He said the lakes above Poinsett are all filled up. Presently, Lake Poinsett is three feet below the full level but the runoff of chain of lakes has not started. "The diversion ditch on the north side of Lake Poinsett is running now." Haase said. "There is a very low possibility of flooding at Lake Poinsett."

JR's in Hayti becomes Renagades Saloon

New owners of JR's; Billy Jo and John Hurley with John's sister, Clara, and Rodney Anderson, are hosting a "meet the new owners" karaoke party tonight. Three of the four owners are celebrating March birthdays. Throw in some green beer, and it should be a wild time.
Good luck to the Renegades in their new endeavor! Go check 'em out. Keep them in mind when you're looking for off-sale liquor, too. And I should add, their hours are Mon.-Sat. noon-2am.

The South Dakota and the surrounding area...Outdoorsmen Magazine is published monthly in Flandreau, SD. We have it delivered to LAKEVIEW Resort to distribute. The articles are fantastic! I am sharing web sites from some of the contributors to the magazine. The March issue had some wonderful wild game recipes and camping food ideas, like the best creamy fish soup. Tinkering with the webpage

After "tinkering" with the website, Lakeview Resort at Lake Poinsett over the last few days, I'm happy to report the addition of many links including a link to Music Service for current and past dart and pool information, Music Service

and two on snowmobiling, but I neglected to give credit to a picture of snowmobiling that I included on the page. That credit should go to the local artist John C. Greene and I am including a link to his studio here, John Green Art Studio

Have you ever wondered about the rain or snow fall accumulation around Poinsett on any given day? If so, go to CoCoRaHS - Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow Network for up-to-date info.

Lodging in the Lake Poinsett area

This week, we received an email from a family in California that is traveling to Lake Poinsett this summer for family reunions. I was asked to help them locate a place to stay, so I thought it a good idea to list with phone numbers lodging right here within 34 miles of Lake Poinsett. If I missed any, let me know so we can add to the list.

I've got links, now, published in the web page
Lakeview Resort at Lake Poinsett
referring to some of the area tourism informational web pages.

Last Call on Winter Sport?

Last weekend, we had quite a few out snowmobiling after the snowfall on Thursday, for what they admitted, "might be the last time this winter." The ice fishermen are all over the ice now that alot of the snow cover is off the lake. Saw a 20# catfish brought in for weighing this evening by a proud, very young man. Hope to get a photo to add to our slide show emailed to us.

Not Feeling So Bold

Wow, I just looked back at the blog as I set it up last week and was taken back by the boldness of my settings. Do you ever get the feeling type style on a page is yelling at you? Hope the new settings I just chose will feel more welcoming to you the reader. I'm feeling more subdued now and hope it shows. We all have enough around us "yelling" for our attention (and I'm not even mentioning those little voices inside my head, save that for another day). But what can you expect from someone who gets her inspiration from Oliver on 'Green Acres'. Last week while I was blogging, he was telling his wife, Lisa that some of the best things that have happened, "have come from people that didn't know what they were doing."

Anyway, March blew in like a lion (with a different feel to the air than a winter wind) so the end of March should feel more lamb like, spring like. Daylight savings time change this weekend. Days are getting longer. Hope springs eternal...

Last weekend for Tropical Specials

Take advantage of the 'first drink 1/2 off special' for anyone coming to LAKEVIEW in February, dressed "Hawaiian Style" Friday or Saturday Night. We can whip you up a scrumptious Aloha ice cream drink if you just say the word. Don't forget Saturday Night is the night for Bob's Karaoke for those who like to join in song or just want to sit back and listen.

Tonight's supper specials include our own lightly breaded and broasted cod and butterfly shrimp. Saturday night is (beef) prime rib and BBQ country style ribs.

So come on out for a reasonably priced meal and/or tip a few drinks and get away from it all...

Easier than a website?

That's the claim, but whenever I do something new, man, it takes me forever. Anyway, I'm going to get this linking thing down. But in the meantime, these pictures are kind of fun to share (even though the photographer maybe had a bit too much Bailey's in her coffee, [I confess] that afternoon). Has anybody else got some? I took a couple outside of the "course" but they didn't turn out.

I've got alot of the fishing pictures posted in an album. Will get that address (or slide show) on to the web page very soon. Just blogging along...linda

And then the sun went down...

and so did we.

Snolf pictures

Snickers, the Snolf Penguin mascot, greeted visitors and let them know for weeks that SNOLF was coming in February.

WELCOME

Just wanted to stop for a minute and thank you for landing here.
This is my first experience with "blogging" and just started typing that last post. I've received very positive feed-back from some of you that viewed our new website http://lakeviewresortlakepoinsett.com/

"So," some have asked, "where did you learn how to publish a website?" Let me answer: that it is something I've always wanted to learn more about. When I was in Sioux Falls this past fall with Bob (while he was his mother, Dee's health advocate after her heart surgery, and that's a whole other story) I saw my opportunity to use my time there to learn and put into practice coursework from SBI, Site Build It, an online marketing company. Before I spent a dime, they offered so much FREE information. I learned all that I now know for publishing a simple website from them and gained the confidence I needed to move forward. With their help, I am still learning and appreciate you bearing with me on my adventure into the world wide web. If you want to know more about websites, follow this link
http://compare.sitesell.com/lightening2.html

And hey, this blogging has some real potential here for on-line sharing. If you're new at this like me, I encourage you to try your hand at posting something, anything here...

Winter Fun

In my world, it's Thank God it's Monday. The day I spend laying in bed watching a movie (or pre-recorded TV show) until 10 am. Then up, but not dressed to go anywhere, drinking coffee, sitting at the computer, in the kitchen, wandering aimlessly through e-mails, searches, dirty laundry, what's for dinner(?) thoughts, while reflecting on the events of the weekend...
Jeez, we had some fun. Friday night, our Renegades dart team played at home while the PPP got ready for Saturday's Snolf tournament. Had visitors in, all the way from Lake Norden who all contributed to a fun night for all.
Snolf on Saturday was a blast for all the participants. Little chilly with the wind, but they dressed for it. Those of us inside (the "window lickers") as Brad nick-named us, (no doubt, his black lab, Billy, inspired that term) enjoyed ourselves while waiting for the brave ones to finish up. A 1st & 2nd place purse was won by the M&Ms and the PipeRentchs' and everyone won a door prize in the drawing. Kevin handled the drawings and kept the tunes comin'.
